Building a Stronger Ottawa Through Youth Engagement McGuinty Government Helps Youth Learn New Skills to Shape Their Communities image

Ontario is investing in the Peer to Peer Youth Leadership and Employment Program that will shape the next generation of leaders through involvement in local community building activities.

In partnership with Jaku Konbit, the Peer to Peer Youth Leadership and Employment program will be developed and implemented by youth of African and immigrant origin, from Ottawa’s Francophone and Anglophone communities. The Program will provide mentorship, leadership training and foster community engagement for newcomer youth through the Youth Opportunities Program.

Youth leaders will spend two months defining a program for the summer months through November 2011. These youth leaders outreached to their communities to bring youth together to engage in summer camp and community garden programs. Participating youth from diverse communities will come together and lead specific activities throughout the summer, teaching youth valuable skills in management and business, while creating more leaders in the community.

Investing in the skills and talents of all Ontarians is part of the McGuinty government’s plan to support our not-for-profit sector, strengthen our communities and grow our economy.
