It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Bill 33, Right to be Free from Discrimination and Harassment Because of Gender Identity or Gender Expression, 2012 (Toby's Act) will be brought forward for Third Reading in the Ontario Legislature this Wednesday June 13th – the final step before becoming Law!
Toby’s Act, which I brought forward along with MPP Cheri DiNovo (NDP) and MPP Christine Elliott (PC), is an important piece of legislation to give our Trans community the full recognition and protection they deserve under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
On Monday, before Third Reading, the Standing Committee on Social Policy will be conducting a review of the Bill beginning at 2pm in Toronto. The committee will be accepting written submissions until 5pm on Monday June 11th. I encourage you to submit your thoughts on this important issue, you can find detailed instructions for written submissions here, and email it directly to the Clerk of the Committee at the address below. If you wish to present to the Committee in person or by phone, please call the Committee Clerk, Katch Koch, as soon as possible at 416-325-3526, or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
