The Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) is the integrated, consolidated statement of the provincial policies concerning land use for Ontario, and provides policy direction on matters of provincial interest related to land use planning and development. Municipal councils, planning boards and any other decision makers, including the Ontario Municipal Board, must ensure their decisions that affect planning matters are consistent with the PPS.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) is currently working with other land use planning ministries to review of the PPS, as required under the Planning Act, to assess the need for revisions to the PPS. The review commenced March 2010 and has included extensive consultation across Ontario with members of the public, municipalities, Aboriginal communities and organizations and stakeholders. The input, ideas and suggestions received from these consultations have informed proposed revisions to the PPS and prompted consideration of whether to extend the legislated PPS five-year review cycle.
On September 24, 2012, our government began consulting on the proposed draft PPS policies and the legislated review cycle for the PPS. Members of the public, municipalities, Aboriginal communities and organizations, and stakeholders are invited to attend regional workshops to find out more about the PPS, talk to provincial staff, and provide comments and suggestions on the draft PPS policies and the frequency of PPS reviews.
There will be a session held in Ottawa next Wednesday, October 17 from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. at Elwood Hall in the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, at 1265 Walkley Road. For further information, or to participate, please click here. Note that the deadline to register is today, October 11 .
