C.J. Michael Flavell, QC Receives the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal image

On Thursday, October 11, MPP Yasir Naqvi honoured C.J. Michael Flavell, QC for his achievements as one of Canada’s most prominent trade lawyers, and his commitment to raising funds for several children’s charities.

Mr. Flavell has a long and outstanding career as a trade lawyer, and boasts extensive appearances on behalf of both foreign and domestic producers, in anti-dumping and subsidy inquiries and reviews before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) and its predecessors. He has frequently argued before NAFTA and FTA Panels as counsel, and advises clients in all areas respecting the CITT, NAFTA, and WTO rules and procedures, Government policies, and other international trade issues. He has been frequently recognized as one of Canada’s top counsel in the field of international trade law by many organizations, including the pre-eminent legal rating authority, LEXPERT, and as part of the “The International Who’s Who of Trade & Customs Lawyers” published by Law Business Research (U.K.).

Mr. Flavell is also a strong community advocate who has been instrumental in raising more than $500,000 for various deserving registered charities in our community. He is a principle supporter of the Westminster Pet Sanctuary and co-hosts annual Charity Golf Tournaments in Ottawa that have benefitted a wide variety of children’s charities throughout the region.

At Mr. Flavell’s request, the evening’s Diamond Jubilee Medal presentation ceremony also served as a fundraiser to benefit the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada's largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre dedicated to understanding, treating, and preventing heart disease. They deliver high-tech care with a personal touch, shape the way cardiovascular medicine is practiced, and revolutionize cardiac treatment and understanding.
