Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi and Kitchissippi Councillor Christine Leadman distributed trees as part of a joint partnership between the two to encourage residents to plant trees in the ward and help the environment.
The trees were donated by MPP Naqvi. He and Councillor Leadman sent out email invitations to residents offering to give away White Spruce trees to a good home.
Yasir and Councillor Leadman planted a tree at 10:30 a.m. on August 8 at the Byron Linear Park, and gave the remaining 65 white spruce trees away to local residents.
The tree planting and give-away was so successful that they were out of trees within an hour!
“Trees play a very important part in the quality of life in our communities. As our ward continues to grow, it is integral that we continue to preserve our green spaces for the future and work to enhance those that we already have such as this beautiful park,” said Councillor Leadman. “It is such a pleasure to be working with MPP Naqvi on this project.”
This initiative is yet another example of how governments can work together to achieve common goals.
“I am so proud to work with Councillor Leadman on this important project,” said Naqvi. “By planting these trees we are proving that small actions and simple steps can make a big difference to improving the quality of life in our community.”
Thank you to all who participated!
