6th Annual Capital Food Blitz an Unprecedented Success MPP Naqvi and Volunteers raise 84,000lbs of Food for the Ottawa Food Bank I was pleased to once again Chair the Ottawa Food Bank’s 6th Annual Capital Food Blitz held this past weekend. What a remarkable success story!

Scores of volunteers were placed at participating Metro and Loblaws stores across the city to hand out distinctive paper bags for customers to fill with much needed items while they went about their regular shopping. This year, 28 grocery stores across the city participated in the event.

While last year’s Capital Food Blitz collected 61,000lbs of non-perishable food items, this year the generosity of the public and the hard work of volunteers saw donations rise to 84,000lbs of food for hungry families in our community.

This could not have been done without the tremendous contribution of time and energy by dozens of volunteers and celebrity hosts. Again this year, I challenged local politicians to “adopt” a grocery store in their neighbourhood and staff it for the day with their own team of volunteers. I would like to thank MPP Phil McNeely, MP Pierre Poilievre, Councillor Christine Leadman, and Councillor Rick Chiarelli for their participation and support.

Thanks to the hard work of our community, the Ottawa Food Bank now has 84,000 pounds of much-needed non-perishable food items to give to vulnerable families and individuals in our community.

Great work!
