Ontario Launches Community Capital Fund New Infrastructure Fund Supports Non-Profit Organziations Ontario is launching a new program to support infrastructure projects for non-profit organizations that serve diverse cultural communities.

The new Community Capital Fund (CFF) will support infrastructure projects that help Ontario’s non-profit organizations deliver important public services to diverse cultural communities. Diverse cultural communities rely heavily on non-profit organizations and their facilities. These include newcomer settlement services, multi-service community centres, performance venues, and cultural activity centres. Unfortunately, limited access to venues and cost barriers often prevent organizations from effectively delivering much needed services.

Non-profit organizations currently receive funding for operating expenditures from various sources including government, philanthropic and private sector donors. However, they have inadequate access to funding for capital projects.

That is why we are introducing the $50 million Community Capital Fund, administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. It will be used to invest in projects that support diverse cultural communities and help revitalize community-based infrastructure.

Who Can Apply?

Organizations that serve diverse cultural communities are eligible to apply. All applicants will be required to confirm their compliance with Ontario’s Human Rights Code.

  • A charitable organization or foundation registered as a charity by the Canada Revenue Agency;
  • An organization incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation without share capital in Ontario;
  • An unincorporated branch or chapter of a registered charity or incorporated not-for-profit organization. The incorporated or registered organization must authorize and accept responsibility for the grant;
  • A collaborative of two or more organizations that are working together to achieve a common goal and has at least one eligible member to act as lead.
What Will We Fund?

The CCF will fund up to 50% of total project costs, with a minimum contribution of $20,000 and a maximum contribution of $500,000 for applications from groups that serve diverse cultural communities. Funding is available for:

  • New construction
  • Construction to improve accessibility
  • Rehabilitation or retrofit of existing infrastructure assets
  • Construction that increases energy efficiency and green building opportunities and
  • Construction that enhances cultural and heritage spaces
Funding under CCF will be awarded on the basis of applications assessed on competitive basis, with priority given to projects that demonstrate measurable community support, including financial contributions. The focus of CCF is on government priorities such as green building opportunities and accessibility.

All infrastructure projects must be completed by December 31, 2012.

How Do I Apply?

We have an on line application system for your convenience. Access and further details are at: www.trilliumfoundation.org. For further information on this exciting program please contact OTF at 1-800-263-2887.

The CCF program deadlines will be confirmed at a later date.

This is an exciting new program that can help your organziation access the resources you need to deliver important services in our community. If you currently have plans for a capital project, I encourage you to consider applying for a grant.

As always, do not hesitate to contact my office if you require any further information.
